Hebrews 11: 13 |  All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 

1 Corinthians 3: 6-8 | I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.  So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.

Knowing that our faithful sowing on earth reaps a harvest in Heaven

CONTENT

Using the right metrics

  • God’s standard is different from the world's standard. God measures our faithfulness instead of measuring the output of our efforts. We can be haunted by the “smallness” in what we do when we measure our efforts by a worldly standard.
  • Judging our efforts for the Lord using the world’s metrics of significance will only discourage us or motivate us for a short amount of time at best.
  • Despite what men see, God is always watching us closely and He rewards our faithfulness. Whatever we truly do for the Lord will reap a Heavenly reward.
  • Example: Abraham was promised that his descendants will claim the promised land, but he did not live to see the fruition of God’s promise. Yet, he kept following God wholeheartedly, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His promise.

Set our gaze on Jesus for completion

  • Instead of employing short-sightedness in everything we do for the Lord, we should think of the long term goal: that is to do things that have eternal significance. To do this, as Hebrews 12:1 tells us, we should keep running with endurance the race that runs before us by focusing on Jesus.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:13-14 mention how God will test our works and if it stands the fire, we will reap a Heavenly reward. To stand the test of the fire, our works should focus on how it would glorify God rather than striving on our own man power.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:6-8 highlights how it is God that gives the increase. This means on whatever assignment God gives us, He is also faithful to provide the provision to complete our assignment, as long as we keep our eyes on Him. Our job is not to yield the results or significance, our job is to remain faithful with what God has entrusted us.
  • As a believer, when fulfilling a God-given assignment is tough, we need to remember to go back to our source, knowing that God is faithful to provide and that He desires for us to complete His task more than we do. When God wants us to do something, He will not leave us or forsake us.
  • Each God-given assignment is designed in such a way that it will never be able to be fulfilled and sustained without abiding in God. God doesn’t need us to do the assignment but He wants to partner up with us to carry it to completion because He wants a relationship with us.
