To remind us that true security is found not in material wealth or worldly possessions, but in Jesus Christ.

To remind us that to be secure in Christ is to live with quiet assurance that we are safe in His hands, even when everything around us changes or fails.

CONTENT

What It Means to be Secure in Christ

We humans tend to cling to worldly things like money, status, achievements, or appearance. Have you ever worked so hard to achieve something, and in the process you start putting your identity in it rather than Christ? These are fragile foundations. When they disappear, our sense of security often goes with them, and we desperately try to rebuild what once made us feel stable. Jesus warns us in Matthew 6:19–21 not to store up treasures on earth, where everything is temporary and can be taken away. As children of God, we are called to see beyond the temporary. What we have in this world was never meant to hold our security.
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all.” (John 10:28-29) When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t only make salvation possible for us. He made it certain. He not only saves us, He sustains us. Consider the weight of this: God loved us so much that He gave His only Son to save us (John 3:16). The greatest gift had already been given. He gave us His Son, and the assurance of eternal life. This is the foundation of our security. Security in Christ is not based on human effort or circumstances, but on the finished work of Christ and the faithfulness of God.

Safe in His Hands

We begin to feel secure as we learn to trust fully in God’s sovereignty and His promises, even in uncertain seasons. Like a child who is able to rest, not because they understand everything, but because they trust the one caring for them. In the same way, we are given the assurance that we are not facing life alone. The Creator of the universe cares for us, and He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). As Romans 8:31 reminds us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” If this is the God who is with us, what reason do we have to fear anything at all?
Psalm 4:8 says, “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” David wrote these words while fleeing for his life from his own son Absalom, who had turned the nation against him. His reputation was in ruins, his enemies were approaching, and death could have come at any moment. Yet despite the threats against his life, David says he can lie down and sleep in peace because he trusted the Lord to keep him safe. David was secure in Him. 1 Peter 5:7 invites us to “cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." Philippians 4:6 reminds us "do not be anxious about anything.” To be safe in His hands is to have peace that allows us to rest, not because our life is free from trouble, but because we know God is faithful, and He is in control.

Living in Quiet Assurance

In Philippians 3:8, Paul says, “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” Paul had status, achievements, and fame, yet he lost it all during his imprisonment in Rome. Even then, he considered everything he once had as “rubbish” compared to Christ. This is because his confidence was not rooted in what he had or who he was, but in Christ alone. Like Paul, we ought to have security that is not shaken by loss, change, or setbacks. Our identity is anchored in Christ alone, not in the things of this world.

CONCLUSION

The world offers temporary forms of security, but only Christ provides what is lasting. When we know we are safe in His hands, we can trust Him even in uncertainty, because He is in control and He cares for us. And when we put our identity in Him alone, we are freed from clinging to temporary things. Like Paul, we begin to see that nothing compares to knowing Christ. Because of Him, we can lie down in peace, we can face tomorrow without fear. In Christ, we have a security that remains when everything else fades.
