REFERENCE BIBLE VERSES

Ezra 7:10 (ESV) | For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

Ezra 9:3, 5-6 (NIV) | When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled… I fell upon my knees with my hands spread out to the Lord my God and prayed.

OBJECTIVES

To understand that discipleship and teaching start from a heart that aches for others’ souls, not from a place of judgment.
To understand that the foundation of our character is essential before influence.

CONTENT

Ezra’s Foundation: Character Before Influence

Prayer and Grief Precede Correction

CONCLUSION

Ezra’s life shows us two essential truths about multiplying influence.

First, influence that lasts is built on a strong foundation of character—studying God’s Word, living it out, and only then teaching it. Second, the most powerful teaching and correction flow from a heart that grieves with people rather than stands over them.

When Ezra’s grief was real, it moved a nation. The same pattern remains true today. Before we try to shape others, God invites us to let Him shape our own hearts. And when our hearts break for what breaks His, that brokenness can become the very place where influence multiplies.
