To understand that God’s mission flows not from visible impact, but from being in a deep, abiding relationship with Him.
CONTENT
How many times have we sought public applause more than God’s approval? If we’re honest, we often find ourselves valuing productivity for God more than His actual presence. It becomes all too easy to take His constant access for granted when we confuse impact for identity. More than our outward devotion ever will, God’s mission overflows from an intimate, dependent relationship with Him.
Rooted in Intimacy
- In a world that often measures success by platform, productivity, and recognition, it’s easy to mistake activity for fruitfulness. We can get so busy manufacturing fruits of our labor that we wonder why we’re left overwhelmed and feeling empty. We may produce desirable results for a time. Yet, without deep roots, sheer human strife cannot sustain His mission (Mat 13:21-22). Apart from the Vine, all our work amounts to nothing (John 15:5).
- True empowerment doesn’t happen in our performance, but in the privacy of how we show up before God when no one is looking. Rather than distracting ourselves with assignments that don’t necessarily come from Him, let us fix on drawing ourselves back to the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Heb. 12:2).
Shaped Through Private Submission
- If we call ourselves people of faith, we know that what is formed in secret matters more to God than what is seen in public (1 Sam. 16:7). More than productivity, our hidden faithfulness carries lasting evidence of our convictions in Christ (Heb. 11:1). This looks like devotedly meeting God in prayer, quiet obedience, and unseen surrender, even as we practice Christ’s righteousness before others (Mat. 6:1). This secret place of personal communion lays the groundwork for the indwelling Spirit to take root, which then enables us to bring eternal impact into the world.
Transformed From the Inside Out
- In God’s kingdom, an effective ministry is a consequence of abiding in the Vine (1 John 4:13). Before He entrusts us with greater public influence, God sees us through in obscurity, where He forms the underlying substance of hopes yet to be seen (Heb. 11:1). Rather than getting distracted by recognition, we ought to reliably check in with the Holy Spirit to prune out hearts. This life of obedience ensures we serve the Lord rather than ourselves.
- When Peter and John spoke with confidence before the Sanhedrin, they were recognized not by their status but by the fact that they had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13). Their authoritative boldness, wisdom, and peace come from being close to Him. By the same spirit, our visible fruits ought to reflect a relationship so deep that others encounter Christ through us. It is only through a deeply attached relationship with Jesus that His mission overflows.

- What are the distractions that most often pull you away from enjoying intimacy with God? What is one practical step you can take this week to return to that “secret place”?
- If God removed every visible platform from your life, would your relationship with HIm remain strong? How so?
