CONTENT

INTEGRITY & DILIGENCE

  • Integrity — being trustworthy and faithful, whether in small or great matters. As Jesus teaches, faithfulness in little things reveals a heart that can be trusted with more (Luke 16:10). True integrity is consistent and does not depend on who is watching. In Colossians 3:22 “[Employees], obey your earthly [employers] in everything you do.” Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
  • Diligence — giving wholehearted effort in everything we do, because God is our true master. Paul reminds us that all work, even ordinary tasks, become acts of worship when done with sincerity and excellence.
  • Integrity and Diligence: Integrity shapes our character, and diligence shapes our service. Diligence is about persevering & maintaining the positive habits, being consistent. It requires firm adherence to the principles/standards we’ve set. One without the other is incomplete. Integrity without diligence is passive, and diligence without integrity lacks sincerity. If we put them together, they form the mark of a faithful steward who both lives rightly and serves wholeheartedly before God.

MATTHEW 25:14-30 // THE PARABLES OF THE BAGS OF GOLD

  • The master entrusted his servants with bags of gold.
    This shows that God, like the master, is the ultimate owner of everything we have. Our time, talents, opportunities, and resources are not ours to keep but are entrusted to us for a purpose. Each servant received a different amount, reminding us that God entrusts each person differently, according to His wisdom and our capacity.
  • Two servants showed integrity and diligence.
    They honored the trust given to them by taking their responsibility seriously. We can see their integrity as they are being faithful with what was not their own, and showing their diligence by actively working and multiplying the resources. Their actions demonstrated a heart that sought to honor their master, not just avoid failure.
  • The third servant failed in both.
    As we know, the third servant hid the gold out of fear and negligence. His lack of integrity shown in how he was being disrespectful of his master’s trust, and his lack of diligence showed in how he refused to do some effort. The problem was not the scale of his task, but his unwillingness to act responsibly with what he had been given.
  • The master’s response reveals God’s standard.
    The faithful servants were rewarded with greater responsibility and welcomed into their master’s joy. The unfaithful servant was judged, not for losing wealth, but for wasting opportunity and failing to act with integrity and diligence. This reveals that God honors integrity and diligence in stewardship, and He will hold each of us accountable for how we manage what He has entrusted to us.
