REFERENCE BIBLE VERSES

Philippians 1:27 NIV | “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.”

OBJECTIVE

To know what it means to be consistent. To learn the importance of being consistent for spiritual excellence.

CONTENT

CONSISTENT IN CHARACTER

  • “Whatever happens conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ”. Paul encouraged the church in Philippi to always be the person who shows consistency in faith and in actions even if no one is watching.
  • A life worthy of the gospel is, then, shown in whether our decisions, our words and our actions are aligned with the principles that are laid out in the bible. They should not depend on the circumstances or how we feel because it is no longer about who we are but who is living in us (Galatians 2:20).
  • To live a life that honors the faith we have in Christ is then what it means to have an excellent life. At the end of the day, it is Christlikeness that we want to strive for.

CONSISTENT IN UNITY

  • “Stand firm in one Spirit” reminds us to continue to be consistent in our faith journey by staying united and striving together with others in our support system.
  • Our spiritual family keeps us accountable so that whenever we feel weak, we can be helped and at the same time when someone else is weak, we can offer support.
  • Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV | And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
  • A consistent Christian life serves as a compelling witness to others. We draw others to Christ when we stand united in the Spirit because the Spirit is one.

CONCLUSION

Spiritual excellence is not to be spiritually perfect but spiritually consistent in faith and conduct. Our main verse calls believers to live in a manner worthy of the gospel, emphasizing unity, steadfastness, and a Christ-centered life. This involves being consistent in conduct that reflects the transformative power of the gospel. At the same time, the unity among believers is crucial for effectively defending and proclaiming the gospel because there is collaboration and mutual support within the community. The consistency we have within ourselves and the gospel as well as with others in the community will bring people to Him. Such a life serves as a powerful testimony to the world.
